VMware vCloud Networking and Security (VCNS) provides networking and security functionality for virtualised customer environments, built using the vCloud Suite.
It provides a broad range of services delivered through virtual appliances, such as a firewalling, virtual private network (VPN), load balancing, NAT, DHCP and VXLAN-extended networks. With VCNS, enterprises can virtualise business critical applications with confidence and build secure and agile vCloud based private clouds.
We are one of the first service providers to go beyond the limitations of VLAN and implement the latest VXLAN technology. VXLAN, a collaboration between VMware, Cisco, Arista Networks and others, is a new network virtualisation technology designed for large cloud computing platforms. Here's a great video explaining why VLANs have reached end-of-life and how VXLAN is the future for software defined networking.
All customers who take our Private Cloud product receive their own dedicated 10Gbit VXLAN secure network segment. This network is protected by, and connected to the internet via VCNS, as a result Private Cloud customers benefit from dedicated IPsec and SSL VPN access, dedicated firewalling and load balancing if required.
Public Cloud customers also benefit from secure multi tenancy via true network isolation to ensure that individual VMs are isolated away from "noisy neighbours".
